Travel Tuesday – Seville and the Opera Carmen

This week, I’ll be singing in a performance of Bizet’s Carmen, with the South Shore Conservatory of Music’s Opera by the Bay. One of my best friends, Beth MacLeod (above), is singing the title role – one she was born to play. I’m a chorus girl! Or, in this opera a cigarette girl. The entire cast is amazing – so if you’re in the eastern Massachusetts area, I highly recommend it!

In honor of Carmen, the ultimate Gypsy temptress, I thought we’d take a trip to Seville, the setting for Carmen, her gypsy gang, the Toreodores, Picadors and many hot sultry nights.

I love the use of saturated sky blues, ochre yellows and , traditional styling and tomato reds of these rooms!

  1. I found the rich photos very enlightening and felt they have given me an extra level of depth to use in my characterization. While the Gypsy Carmen and her friends would have very different “surroundings” than those pictured, I was so moved by the vibrant, alive living spaces. The sun brought inside with the yellows and blues, the fiery reds – all brought to mind the heat of the day and the passion of the people. Thank you so much for helping me to bring this spirited character to life in a real, genuine way!

  3. So, let me get this straight. You’re an intelligent business woman. You have impeccable taste. And you’re a singer/performer. There’s no question, you (and your blog) are fabulous. 🙂
