I consider myself pretty good at cobbling together design sketches to flesh out a concept for my clients. My “sketches” are actually a combination of hand drawing, computer renderings and image placement.
My drawing skills are labored and slow, at best. I can manage, but the time it takes for me to do a complete hand rendering is not worth the final results. So, I am constantly amazed and jealous impressed by the rendering skills of the über talented interior designer Michelle Morelan of Vancouver.
I know, right? Seriously. Michelle’s work looks so effortless which is the big thing my own hand drawing lacks (well, not JUST that, but it’s the biggest thing).
Michelle’s blog, A Schematic Life, showcases many of her own design projects and renderings, plus commissioned work. She is also offering a rendering workshop in March in Vancouver which I wish I could attend!
Michelle also has a series of videos that show how she creates a rendering. So check that out.
Thanks Michelle for adding your voice and artistic talent to the design blogosphere!
Michelle is so talented, and is having a class, which I wish I could attend!! Thanks Linda for featuring her!

I am so lucky to know Michelle personally, she is not just talented but also a warm, kind person. Hope many people will come to Vancouver, it would be fun to meet them all.
Linda, what a beautiful gesture…not only do I find you one of the most sharing and talented design bloggers, but the model of what social networking can be. I wish I could be as multi-talented, and look to you often as a blog mentor. Funny, today, I was about to head over to listen to some SRT…it's been a while, and I so enjoy your interviews. Love to meet up sometime…maybe May at ICFF? I love NYC in May.
Thank you, thank you.
Michelle 🙂
BTW…I love your sketches, and your mix of hand and comp work. 🙂
such a talent is right! beautiful, frame worthy sketches!

They are so lovely…wish I could frame a few for my guestroom!
Cristin – you have it absolutely right. Michelle's work is art!
I feel like I've studied her renderings for hours, as well as her on line videos. They all looks so effortless. Humbling. She's a design talent and I've told myself that some day I will own one of her paintings.
I just discovered your lovely blog. I'm just new into blogging & have just finished off my own blog on fashion & interior design.

I had a lot of fun putting it together. I would love your feedback on it if you've got a spare minute.

Ok, after viewing those beauties, I realize my drawing skills are about a 1 on a scale of 1-10 – WOW! beautiful work, I will check out her blog, thanks for sharing Linda (or should I???) aahh!
What fabulous renderings! It is so nice to see the designs expressed with such great flare & color… they give an even better feel for the spaces than computer generated renderings because they also have a soul! Clients would love to live in one of her environments, whereas the cg representations can come across as cold & uninviting. I have gotten away from hand drawn floor plans & elevations, but now I'm motived to move back in that direction where I can. Mine won't be as visually perfect as Michelle's, but I'll work on it! Thanks, Linda, for sharing Michelle's expertise!
Hi Linda, how are you my friend!? Are you busy with new projects for this year? I certainly am! I know it is a while ago I visited you!
I love the renderings of Michele! I was so surprised the day she blogged about my library and she made a wonderful video of the rendering process! I was so flattered. I am so thankful to her. And as you I am jea.. euh impressed by her gorgeous work!!
Wish you a wonderful week Linda!
