Massachusetts’ most expensive property

For a cool $59 million this property on Nantucket can be yours:

Property Description: A rare opportunity to purchase a one-of-a-kind, waterfront estate on exclusive Nantucket Island. This outstanding property, “Swain’s Neck,” features spectacular, unobstructed 180-degree views of Polpis Harbor. Spread out on almost 70 acres, the compound features a sprawling main residence which embraces the magnificent views, a charming guest cottage, a private studio/office, a boathouse, a gatehouse with apartment, several fenced-in pastures, a sport court and meticulously manicured grounds and gardens.

First Floor: The front entry opens into a grand and elegant, atrium-like living room, with towering ceiling height, a fireplace with honed-limestone surround, custom paneling and trim, cherry floors and a wall of windows and French doors which open to an expansive lawn and the shores of the Harbor. A smaller, more intimate adjacent parlor features a fireplace, wet bar and shares the spectacular views; this opens to the master bedroom with fireplace and private deck, en suite spa/bath, dedicated laundry and spacious walk in closet. In an opposite wing is a gourmet kitchen, with high-end appliances and amenities, including granite counters and bar, twin paneled refrigerators, double wall ovens and custom-crafted cabinetry. An adjacent sitting room and dining area is cozy, with rich, walnut detailing and French doors to a deck. Water views can be enjoyed from every angle. Beyond this comfortable gathering area are a pantry room with additional refrigerator, laundry room with utility sink, den/media room with sound system, spacious mudroom with window seats and custom storage cabinetry and access to the attached, double-bay garage. There is a hall with lit display and custom cabinetry and a powder room with inlay floor detail.

Second Floor: A graceful curved stairway winds from the living room to the second floor landing and balcony. Four en suite bedrooms all feature stunning views and are beautifully appointed, with custom detailing, luxurious, wall-to-wall carpeting and marble/limestone baths. There is access to the second floor from a second stairway, which arrives at a spacious landing and storage filled hallway.

Other Structures: A charming gatehouse frames the entrance to the property, with a security gate and two-bedroom apartment. The driveway gracefully winds over a trout stream and to the main residence, a spacious two-bedroom, waterfront guest cottage, a boathouse with storage and outdoor shower, and an octagonal shaped studio/office with plush facilities abutting the sport court.

This story was all over the news yesterday and it’s no wonder at $59 million! But the story of this house is really clearly the property – with 1 mile of gorgeous Nantucket beachfront – it’s unique and truly spectacular. The house itself isn’t really anything unusual for Nantucket and the furnishings speak to it probably being staged for sale. Wouldn’t you want to just get your hands on that with the budget to really go to town?

This is a bit of a test post. I’m using my new iPad for the first time doing the entire post via Blogsy and using the voice to text recognition feature. I can’t see it replacing my desktop for longer posts but certainly for on the go posts, this is a great feature!
