Bucket List Item: Riding the Rails

Well, certainly if they are these rails! The Royal Scotsman is my new obsession. I’m not Scottish, but I’ll admit to loving all things Scottish. One of my favorite summer reads is the “Outlander” series by Diana Gabaldon (highly recommended) and I’m looking forward to seeing the new DisneyPixar movie BRAVE which is set in ancient Scotland and features the voice of my other favorite Scottish export, TV’s Craig Ferguson. Plus, who doesn’t love a guy in a kilt.

All aboard!

“A journey on The Royal Scotsman takes you straight to the heart of the Highlands, through landscapes of towering, pine-clad mountains reflected in mirror-still lochs. Just 36 guests travel through Scotland’s finest countryside in private cabins, with an open-deck observation carriage behind. Life on board this luxury train is relaxed and indulgent, with gastronomic dining and the convivial atmosphere of celebrating with friends. After dinner, over a wee dram, a local clansman recounts tales that bring Scottish history alive.”

Comfortable staterooms feature rich mixed wood paneling with inlay, large windows for taking in the views and rich, sumptuous fabrics on beds and windows.

Beautiful and luxe hotel quality bathrooms with showers.

Fine details abound.

In case you need a friend.

Iconic narrow train passage.

A little entertainment. Love the tartan carpet!

Lounging.

Note the open-air car out the back of the lounge.
