For this third installment in Spa Week, I take you to the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod. Located in the picturesque town of Chatham, the Inn is a sprawling seaside retreat. Although Cape Cod is literally my back yard and didn’t seem like it would be much of a get away, the Chatham Bars Inn has such a magnificent setting and reputation, that it was worth considering. Also, it benefitted from not requiring a long drive and if we did an overnight, my dog’s kennel (The Cape Cod Pet Resort) would be on the way – very convenient.
The interiors are the epitome of comfortable luxury – very understated yet top notch.
The dining room has a wonderful view.
The outdoor cabanas are to die for. (And yes, ultimately, it didn’t make a lot of sense to visit this time of year and not be able to take advantage of these amenities). And yes, you can have outdoor massages as well.
In the end, the Spa Suite room didn’t make sense for only a one night stay (check in 4pm, check out 11am). We felt we’d be rushing trying to get some decent spa services in. The Chatham Bars Inn does offer a wide variety of services and treatments and we considered putting together a single day “package” of services. But the cost was comparable for a full day at our chosen destination, without the included lunch. Plus, with no photos available (anywhere it seems) of the spa itself, we decided the spa wasn’t a great destination in and of itself. A good friend spend an overnight there in winter a couple of years ago and verified this for me – great place, beautiful – but the town is all closed up in the winter and without access to outdoor spaces, a winter’s stay is lacking.
