I’ve written before (on several occasions!) that Newburyport is my favorite city pretty much anywhere but definitely here in Massachusetts. I used to live there and often wonder why I moved (long story!). Anyway, I regularly attend the Christmas House Tour which benefits the Custom House Maritime Museum and the Kitchen Tour which benefits the Newburyport Public Schools.
The kitchen tour celebrates this year with a complimentary sweet and savories bites served in select homes on the tour. Local treats from Newburyport eateries include Bob Lobster, Brown Sugar by the Sea, Buttermilk Baking Co., Chococoa Baking Company, Dianne’s Fine Desserts, Loretta Restaurant, Revitalive, VASA Waterfront Kitchen & Bar and more. A special wine tasting will take place on the patio at one of the homes on the tour, generously provided by Mill River Winery and The Newburyport Olive Oil Company.
This self-guided driving kitchen tour will feature one-of-a-kind kitchens in a variety of homes ranging from newly constructed waterview dwellings to renovated historic residences. This year’s kitchens represents the latest in innovation, functionality and design from our riverside and coastal community craftsmen – where historical design meets modern amenities.
Tour volunteer and organizer Allison Lehane shares, “While interviewing the homeowners for this tour, we continue to discover fascinating stories to share. Each seem to start in the heart of the family home in the kitchen and entertaining spaces, where families congregate.” The 2017 kitchens have been selected to lead participants throughout Greater Newburyport and into Plum Island neighborhoods for added enjoyment. “This tour has become a special part of the Yankee Homecoming celebrations where visitors can find both inspiration and recreation for the day.”
