The summer is almost over (sorry, but it’s true!) and I though it was almost past time to post about this gorgeous book I received from the folks at The Vendome Press. OUT EAST Houses and Gardens of the Hamptons is written by Jennifer Ash Rudick with photos by Tria Giovan. The houses and gardens are all beautiful, of course, but notable to me is that these homes aren’t all “done” to the nines in traditional coastal themed design. (Read my recent post for more on how not to overdo a design theme). There is a lived in eclecticism that is on display – you feel like you’re visiting real homes, not set pieces. Both the writer and photographer are from the area, which allows them to have an insider’s view of this iconic coastal area. More than 30 homes are featured including shingle styles, modernist, converted carriage houses from architects and designers such as Jeffrey Billhuber, Muriel Brandolini, Thierry Despont, David Netter, Robert A. M. Stern, and more.
Along with beautiful homes, there are wonderful gardens and landscaping so well known in the Hamptons. There are well manicured and designed outdoor spaces and more naturalistic beaches filled with seagrasses and the ocean beyond. Let’s face it – it’s always about the ocean!

Hi Anne – I wouldn’t mind own this either! It’s in the Hamptons.
Beautiful, they truly are “real” rooms. I’m looking for a rattan chair similar to the one in second to last photo. Any suggestions where to get it Linda?
Hi Mary Beth – Ask and ye shall receive! It looks to be the Serena and Lily Bungalow Chair http://www.serenaandlily.com/bungalow-chair—natural/m10751.html#start=35
