But first – a lesson: What is the difference between wicker and rattan?

“Wicker” and “rattan” are often used interchangeably, but they actually refer to different things.

  1. Wicker: Wicker is a weaving technique that involves weaving natural or synthetic materials, such as cane, willow, rattan, or bamboo, into a patterned surface. Wicker furniture can be made from various materials, including rattan, but it can also be crafted from other materials like bamboo, willow, or synthetic fibers.
  2. Rattan: Rattan is a type of palm plant that grows in tropical regions, particularly in Southeast Asia. It’s known for its strong, flexible stems, which are used in furniture making. Rattan furniture is made by weaving these stems together to create sturdy yet lightweight pieces.

So, the main difference is that wicker refers to the weaving technique, while rattan refers to the material used in making some types of wicker furniture. However, colloquially, “wicker” is often used to describe furniture made from a variety of woven materials, including rattan.

Imagine lounging on a rattan armchair adorned with plush cushions, basking in the gentle sunlight streaming through open windows. Or perhaps dining al fresco amidst wicker furniture sets, surrounded by lush greenery and the sweet scent of blooming flowers.
